Medical Aid

Since Hope for the Family started, medical treatment has been provided for individuals where the families have been unable to raise sufficient funds, or where an operation has been assessed as more successful privately or outside of Romania. To ensure that effective treatment is provided, each case is assessed by a responsible doctor or specialist before proceeding.

Andrei - was born profoundly deaf. Traditional external hearing aids are not suitable as the inner ear does not function and an operation took place in Hungary to provide a cochlear implant. He is beginning to hear and recognise sounds and with the aid of speech therapy, has started talking. It is hoped that a computer based training programme will soon be translated into Romanian to enable him to further his speech progress. A computer will be provided to enable him to use this programme

Sonia - is a twin and is sponsored to live at Safe Homes. She has total blindness in one eye and partial sight in the other. She was brought to Kings College Hospital, London to see a specialist and to assess if there was any treatment possible that would improve her sight. Unfortunately, this was not possible and she will need support to adapt to this disability.

Stefan - Sonias twin brother. It has recently been diagnosed that he is deaf and it is hoped that he will soon see a specialist in Hungary to determine the possibilities for his future.
