When we first took up an invitation to help with rebuilding an alcoholic centre in
Oradea, Romania in 1998, we did not appreciate how this was going to effect not
only our future, but the lives of many children and families in Romania. We
were taken to Caminul Felix, a sponsored Christian orphanage and Casa Minunata,
a sponsored school for mentally and physically disadvantaged children where we
saw the care that was being given to children who had been abandoned or did not
attend school due to their disability. |
At the Children’s Hospital we saw babies who had been abandoned. Some that were older
were tied to their cots to prevent them climbing out, or harming themselves.
There were no toys. Hospital staff levels were minimal, therefore spending time
to play and stimulate the children was not an option. We returned home promising that we would raise money to save three of the children, who were brothers and sister and sponsor them to be placed in Caminul Felix orphanage. This was the beginning of our challenge, mission and ministry where we rely upon God and the generosity of others who have the same vision as us, to finance the improvement of the quality of life for abandoned children and poor families in and around Oradea, Romania. Over the years the work has grown and the support expanded and in 2001 we formally registered as ‘Hope for the Family (Romania) Trust’ – registered charity no. 1089073. |
